How old were you when you started and where did your idea come from?
I learned to sew when I was seven years old and started selling handmade doll dresses on Facebook, just for fun. Later, I added dresses for girls and dolls, aprons, and party banners. I needed a better platform for selling and that's how Sara Sews started.
What was the biggest mistake you made and what did you learn from it?
I tried to make too many different types of products when Sara Sews started. I learned that not every product will be popular and to stick with things that customers like, not just my favorites.
What are your future plans for the business?
I'd like to move to a larger shop so that we could offer sewing lessons and open a market where other kids could sell handmade products.
Any advice for other girls starting a business?
Be bold! Do something that you love, ask for help if you need it, and don't give up just because you are young. My life motto comes from one of my favorite painters, the late Bob Ross. "There are no mistakes in life, just happy accidents."
